Which surfboard brand is better: Rusty or Rip Curl?

Q: I'm just wondering as i might be getting a surfboard later in the year and want to get the best one.

A: If you are just starting to plan to surf, you really don't want to buy either one, yet. Beginners should take advantage of renting boards and wetsuits while taking lessons. If it turns out you don't like surfing, you haven't wasted a whole lot of money on gear that you are not going to use.

Rusty is an actual person and makes boards. I have no idea who shapes for Rip Curl which is more of a wetsuit brand than a board maker. I would go to other shops and find a local shaper you can talk to. Buying a local brand will help if you are surfing where he/she surfs.

Does Rip Curl still make surfboards?

Q: Someone told me they no longer make surfboards, but I think that sounds a little ridiculous.

A: I've never seen a rip curl surfboard, but if I did I wouldn't buy it... they're more of a surf clothing brand, surfers know the best surfboards don't come from big companies like rip curl...

Bethany Hamilton recovers from recent arm surgery

Pro surfer Bethany Hamilton underwent arm surgery Saturday to repair nerve damage incurred from a surfing accident June 22nd. She was on a boat trip on Indonesia’s Mentawai Islands with her sponsor, Rip Curl, at the time.

The cut occurred when Hamilton fell and a surfboard fin slit her bicep, requiring 10 stitches. But she still had enduring numbness reaching from her pinky and ring finger up to the cut on the lower side of her right arm.

Hamilton’s personal assistant and sister-in-law, Becky Hamilton, told ESPN that Bethany had been making follow-up appointments with doctors and expects to make a full recovery. “She was feeling really good [after surgery],” Becky said, adding that Bethany was at a scheduled autograph signing Sunday, and she was even posing for pictures. “Everyone was blown away. She’s got a lot of energy.

Kanoa Igarashi Dominates 1st Rip Curl GromSearch | Channel Islands ...

This past weekend saw the Rip Curl GromSearch movement roar back to life as the inaugural West Coast Qualifier was in full swing at 9th Street Huntington Beach. The talent was stacked, and names like Kalani David, Colin Moran, Kanoa Igarashi, and Jake Marshall are a few that demonstrated their heavy-hitter reputations are well-founded. Despite some standard morning fog, fun chest-high surf was on rapid fire for the groms to get busy at 9th Street, Huntington Beach.

In the boys 12 and under division, it was clear form start to finish that Jake Marshall meant business. Dropping an 8.0 at the end of the final, Marshall surfed with the perfect combination of flare and polish to solidify the win, as Griffin Colipinto, John Mel and Kei Kobayashi came up just short in the final.
